Fortress of the Lich

Made in Unreal Engine 5

Synopsis

You play as a knight who has been captured by the nefarious lich Lord Malicifor, as you travel through the fortresses halls in order to escape and make it back home to your family.

What I learned

  • Through this project, I gained more experience with designing a fast paced game, and making sure the sounds and music I made kept up with that high energy.

  • Also learned how to better design boomer shooter levels.

Problems that arose and how they were solved

  • Trying to find the right balance between being difficult but not too difficult. We solved this via conducting a lot of testing with various people of various skill levels.

  • Creating a map where the player would have to be constantly moving and constantly engaging the enemies. We would solve this by adjusting the level to make sure there weren't any hiding spots that the player could exploit to try and take the enemies out easier.

  • A variety of weapons to use, alongside moves like kicking and dashing.

  • Environmental hazards to use against the enemies.

  • Twitchy gameplay that aims to capture the feel of boomer shooters.
