Guardian Spirit

Made in Unreal Engine 5

Synopsis

This tower defense has the player take control of Echo, a ghost who is seeking to protect their home from pilgrims that have come to try and destroy the manor, due to it harbouring all kinds of paranormal entities.

What I learned

  • Tower defense is very tricky to design for; so many differing factors that were hard to keep up with.

  • Further improved my skills with graphic design and just laying out the UI, making sure it was all visible and properly positioned.

Problems that arose and how they were solved

  • The balancing was a challenge we faced, as it takes a lot to make sure the experience feels different enough each time yet also not too hard or too easy, which we solved by constantly playtesting and playing with the values until we got something to work.

  • Getting the final build to work in time was a problem we weren't able to solve until after the deadline.  The lesson we learned from this was to make sure to not make a final build at the last minute in case there is some bug that makes the game unplayable.
